These were the years that saw the establishment of important regional bodies such as the Regional Guarantor of Human Rights and the Regional Ombudsman (Regional Law No. 9 of May 16, 2014) and the Regional Cultural Heritage Authority – ERPAC (Regional Law No. 2 of February 25, 2016). The Region has also undergone significant administrative and territorial changes: see the abolition of the provinces with the consequent transfer of functions and resources to regions and municipalities (Regional Law No. 20 of December 9, 2016) and the transfer of the municipality of Sappada/Plon from the Veneto Region to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (Regional Law No. 4 of February 9, 2018). In July 2015, the Regional Council welcomed the children of Giulian emigrants to the council chamber. In 2016, the council chamber was the venue for the award ceremony for the regional Olympic athletes who competed in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. In May of the same year, the President of the Regional Council, Franco Iacop, and the President of the Region, Debora Serracchiani, were in Udine for the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Friuli earthquake, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
