IX LEGISLATURE 2003-2008

Under the presidency of Alessandro Tesini, the regional legislative assembly focused its attention on regulatory measures such as Regional Law No. 1 of January 9, 2006, on the principles and fundamental rules of the regional system and local authorities in Friuli Venezia Giulia, which sets out the principle of autonomy as a fundamental value for the protection, enhancement, and development of individual local communities and the entire regional community; the establishment of the “Fondazione Aquileia” (Aquileia Foundation) with Regional Law No. 18 of August 25, 2006, aimed at enhancing the city's archaeological, monumental, and urban heritage; two regional laws (Nos. 26/2007 and 29/2007, respectively) aimed at protecting the Slovenian linguistic minority and protecting, enhancing, and promoting the Friulian language. Among the most significant institutional events were the award ceremony in the Regional Council for the regional Olympic athletes of Athens 2004; the visit of the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi in November 2004 on the occasion of the “Day of National Unity and the Armed Forces” and the 50th anniversary of the Frecce Tricolori, received by the President of the Region Riccardo Illy and the President of the Regional Council Alessandro Tesini; the ceremony for the 30th anniversary of the earthquake in Friuli with the awarding of recognition to those within the institutions who helped with the reconstruction work; the ceremony for the first restoration of the Ursus thanks to regional funding; and finally, in December 2007, the meeting between Regional Council President Alessandro Tesini and the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, XIV Dalai Lama.
