For Tarvisio's bid to host the Winter Olympic Games, on August 9, 1994, Regional Council President Giancarlo Cruder welcomed the President of the ISF (International Sky Association) for an inspection visit to Tarvisio. In May 1995, a joint-stock company, Aeroporto Friuli-Venezia Giulia SpA, was established to manage, modernize, and upgrade the Ronchi dei Legionari airport. To protect and promote the Friulian language and culture, considered “a central issue for the development of special autonomy,” Regional Law No. 15 of March 22, 1996, was enacted, establishing the service for regional and minority languages. Also in 1996, regulations for agritourism were issued. On the 20th anniversary of the earthquake, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Irene Pivetti, visited the Regional Council on May 6, 1996. In 1997, regulations governing local public transport were issued, in addition to those defining small and medium-sized industrial enterprises, the regional treasure consisting of many small and medium-sized manufacturing companies. On May 16, 1997, the President of the Republic, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, visited the region and was welcomed by the President of the Region, Giancarlo Cruder, and the President of the Council, Roberto Antonione, at the Government Palace, the seat of the Prefecture. On September 12, they welcomed the Dalai Lama, who was also visiting the region. In March 1998, Regional Law No. 6 established the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (ARPA).
