On October 15, 1979, the political representative of the Socialist Republic of Croatia visited the Memorial Shrine of the Gonars concentration camp, built in the town cemetery in 1973 on the initiative of the Yugoslav authorities, in order to collect the remains of Slovenian and Croatian internees who died in the concentration camp and of whom no trace remains. During this five-year period, regional laws were enacted for the establishment and organization of Local Health and Social Welfare Units, the functions of mental health protection and public health and hygiene were regulated, and workplace health prevention and protection and the regulation of pharmaceutical services were standardized. A regional revolving fund was established for interventions in the agricultural sector, and measures were regulated in favor of regional industry and historic centers. In October 1983, the President of the Republic, Sandro Pertini, visited the Regional Council, accompanied by the Minister for State Holdings, Gianni De Michelis, MEP Manlio Cecovini, Senator Mario Toros, and Deputies Mario Fioret and Loris Fortuna.
