On October 5, 1972, the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Regional Council took place in Trieste's Piazza Oberdan, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Giovanni Leone. On this occasion, the Council held an extraordinary session, with institutional speeches by the President of the Republic, Giovanni Leone, and the Presidents of both the Regional Council, Michelangelo Ribezzi, and the Regional Executive, Alfredo Berzanti. On January 31, 1973, the 10th anniversary of the promulgation of the Special Statute was celebrated in the Council Chamber. Important regional laws were enacted, including those defining and regulating craft businesses, the Region's shareholding in Friulia SpA, the development and management of a regional electronic information system for the collection and processing of socio-economic data in the region (the future SIIR), and, finally, the enhancement and revitalization of the mountain areas of the Region through the establishment of mountain communities.
