History and mission

The Photographic Archive of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, kept at the Library, was established in 2006 to collect images and documentation of institutional, political, social, cultural life and territorial life of the Region.


The collection consists of approximately 160,000 photographs, including 45,000 positives, 100,000 film negatives and 15,000 slides, and brings together the professional archive of Trieste photographer Renato Rizzo (1938), the historical archive of the Regional Council and that of the Regional CouncilIt is an iconographic heritage of impressive consistency and quality and of extraordinary documentary importance, covering with precision and a wealth of material the entire period from the establishment of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia (1964) to more recent times (2008)
